Why do webmaster are after .EDU sites?

It's a big question for me and for everyone else on the webmaster forums, on why are they after the .EDU links? Why? Is it because they are very potential when it comes to SEO purposes? One thing for sure, I think it's more on blog commenting and one-way permanent inbound links. Most of the webmasters are selling .EDU do-follow blogs at a higher price compared to .COM or .NET sites.

The same thing goes to .GOV sites. But mostly, they're after .EDU sites. COz' they're so easy and reliable. We'll for me, at least it's a good strategy that when you have inbound links on these sites which connects to any university using .EDU, you will have a chance that your backlink will be much worth and it will soon generate traffic and revenue as well, and must be do-follow sites too. I have a list of them, but I have no idea of the purpose until I realize that they are really worth not only for blog commenting, but also for one-way permanent inbound links.
